You're invited to be a part of the history-making, inspiring and innovative  Women's Entrepreneurship Day conference in Madison on Monday, November 19th!

In our inaugural year, nearly 400 Wisconsin women became became part of a global story of economic empowerment, confidence building and community at WEDWisconsin.

Right now, you can take advantage of Early Bird ticket prices and save $30.

As WEDWisconsin's Ambassador and the conference producer, I hope you will take the time for yourself. Last year, the survey respondents all said they were glad they did. It is a unique experience to be part of a conference like this, to take a day away to think and strategize.

Men are welcome too as they are an important part of the ecosystem and can open many doors. Understanding the barriers to entry helps all of us to have more opportunity to thrive.

WED IGNITES women leaders, innovators, and entrepreneurs to initiate startups, drive economic expansion, and advance communities. It isn't designed just for start-ups or more experienced business owners but for anyone who simply desires to make the world a better place by having an entrepreneurial mindset.

I do hope you'll join us and spread the word. The enthusiasm last year was almost too much to contain - three standing ovations and nearly 400 women who became far more confident by the end of the day! Join us and see for yourself what a difference a day can make!

Why is this movement so important?

  1. While the share of women-owned firms keeps climbing – from 28% in 2002 to 38% today – their share of employment (8%) and revenues (4%) remains essentially unchanged.
  2. Although the number of minority women-owned businesses has increased at a rate nearly three times that of all women-owned firms since 2006 (127% versus 45%), their average annual revenues are less than half that of the average women-owned firm (just under $69,000 compared to $143,000).
  3. Since the recession the industries with the greatest share of new women-owned firms are found in historically traditional sectors for women: Services (which includes hair and nail salons, up 98% compared to 45% overall); administrative, support and waste management services (home to janitorial and landscaping businesses, +64%); and accommodation and food services (+62%).
  4. Only 2% of women-owned enterprises break $1 million in revenue. Those owned by men are 3.5 times as likely to reach that million-dollar threshold.
  5. Female entrepreneurs receive only about 2% of all venture funding, despite owning 38% of the businesses in the country.
  6. Harvard Business Review found that 67% of the questions posed to male entrepreneurs were promotion-oriented, while 66% of those posed to female entrepreneurs were prevention-oriented.
  7. Even among SBA loans, women receive 2.5 times less money than men: on average, women get $59,857 while men receive $156,279.
  8. For small business loans, women receive just 16% of all loans even though 1 in 3 small businesses in the U.S. are owned by women.
  9. Between 2007 and 2016 the number of women-owned firms increased by 45%, compared to just a 9% increase among all businesses.

I WANT TO SPONSOR

"Attending the Women's Entrepreneurship Day last November helped me to step outside of limiting parameters and begin to think and consider more broadly - along with gaining confidence and the mindset that there would be organizations that accept an older person as a workplace wellness leader. Thank you for your work - your message reaches farther than you realize!"

Women's Entrepreneurship Day (WED) is the world’s largest celebration of women innovators and job creators. It is described by Fortune Magazine as “a global movement to celebrate and support female founders and shed light on some of their challenges.” Forbes Magazine wrote that the intention was also “to mobilize a global network of female business owners, entrepreneurs and change makers who support and empower this community of women entrepreneurs and their businesses.”
