THE HOMELESS CENTER HAS A NEW NAME!

After a public naming campaign, Dane County’s long-awaited day resource center for the homeless now has a name: The Beacon.

The name was chosen from 400 submissions, and was one of four finalists. Creative Company is agency of record for Catholic Charities of Madison.

The Beacon “is a beautiful and hopeful message,” Jackson Fonder, president of Catholic Charities, which will run the facility, said at a press conference Tuesday afternoon. Continue reading >>

The Beacon, which is projected to open Oct. 1, is being developed in the former Greater Madison Chamber of Commerce building, 615 E. Washington Avenue.

You built your business. They’ll help you grow it.

Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses is a program for small businesses that links learning to action. Through the program, participants gain skills in key financial ratios, building out opportunities, leadership, market opportunities, process improvement, marketing and forecasting. In addition, participants receive the professional support they need to develop a strategic and customized business growth plan that takes their companies to the next level. Only 20% of applicants are accepted into the program. Laura was part of the national cohort of 150 scholars from the United States and Puerto Rico. All were on full scholarship from Goldman Sachs valued at $50K.

10,000 Small Businesses (10KSB) is guided by an advisory council on which Babson College President Kerry Healey serves, and is co-chaired by Goldman Sachs chairman and CEO Lloyd C. Blankfein; Bloomberg L.P. founder, president, and CEO, and 108th Mayor of the City of New York Michael R. Bloomberg; Berkshire Hathaway chairman and CEO Warren Buffett; and the Initiative for a Competitive Inner City’s Michael Porter. The National Urban League and the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce also are represented on the council, among other groups.

To find out more, talk to our President and CEO, Laura Gallagher! Last week, Laura became an alumni of Babson College with a Certificate in Entrepreneurship. Program results show that 10,000 Small Businesses graduates consistently grow their revenues and create jobs at rates that outperform the broader economy.

Laura is also a 2016 graduate of the Initiative for a Competitive Inner City program which will be happening again this fall in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

MORE ABOUT THE PROGRAM

“I need a headshot for LinkedIn.”

Your headshot has become part of your online business card. That avatar image sets the tone of who you are dozens of times per day. Has the technology or prevailing headshot style changed? Have you changed significantly? Probably time to update your headshot. You want your picture to resemble the best version of your current self, as well as reflect your vision of where you are going.

Need to update your look?  Chat with our photographer to the stars (music stars, that is), Tracy Kapela. Tracy is our Art Director, and she also photographs festivals, such as Bratfest and Lifest, among others. See her portfolio and let us know if you need her magic.

Why I still believe.

I believe my life is richer and more interesting, not because of how much money I have in my checking account, but because of the people in my life who come from all corners of the earth.
