When you look to your right or left,
who is beside you?

Dear Friends,

An energy drain is when you have expectations of people who aren't up for the job at hand and you end up carrying the load. An energy boost is when you surround yourself with people who are invested, who care and who are also on a similar mission. My mission is to use my energy, creativity, gifts and talents to create work that matters. What is your mission?

When you look to your right or left, who is beside you? Are they on a similar mission? If not, maybe it's time to change the company you keep. Experts say we are the average of the five people we spend the most time with. If we're spending our days with people who have no time, no money and no dreams, then we'll join them in that miserable place. On the other hand, if we spend time with people who see opportunity everywhere they look, who believe in humanity, and who are living a good story, who live a life of honor and integrity, who commit to people and work that matters, we will too.

We tend to be like a flock of geese in our lives. Sometimes leading. Sometimes following. Sometimes staying with one who is hurt or injured until they get well. But, we still need to choose carefully the company we keep. That may even mean going into the Wild, Wild West for a season as we refocus our life, but the rewards are there for those who dare. In my experience, expecting more from others and myself always turn out well. It's when I've accepted less that I wish I hadn't.

Below is an excerpt from my book, #180in120® - Recharge Your Business in 120 Days. I wrote a whole chapter titled "Why I want to be a cowboy". Here's what I wrote in the summer of '15.

"A cowboy leaves the bunkhouse ready for action. She gets everything she wants by moving, minimizing threats and pressing towards getting to her destination."

Interestingly enough, I actually used the word "he" in the book. But not anymore. She's leading the way and you can too.

A cowboy also doesn't lick his wounds when he falls off the horse. She/he gets back on. They have places to be, the cattle are counting on them and they need to be home by sunset.

Here's to making your dreams come true by taking action. Don't sit this one out. You only have one life to live. Live a better story. It all begins with you.

NewBridge Selects The Creative Company as Agency of Record

We are proud to announce that we have been selected as Agency of Record for NewBridge, a non-profit organization serving older adults in Madison and Monona!

In 2018, four senior centers in Madison merged together. The Creative Company was retained to guide the communications strategy for this merger.

In 2019, we're continuing the great work that began with this wonderful partner! The number of seniors is growing and elder care in our country is among the worst of all wealthy nations. The need will continue to grow. Volunteers are ALWAYS needed at NewBridge too, so if you have a few hours to give now and then, there are so many terrific ways to help. Click here to learn more.

NewBridge will be hosting Black Tie Bingo at Maple Bluff Country Club on April 25th. Save the date! Bring some friends to a really fun night out to support this great organization and all that they are doing for the seniors in our area. From snow angels to activities, they are up to a bunch of 'awesome' on any given day! Plus, our own Laura Gallagher will be the Master of Ceremonies, so we'll have some fun, raise a little money and create a great memory while making an impact! Hope to see you there!

Haptics - the Neuroscience of Touch and How it Can Improve Your Brand

Photo of deluxe papers

In marketing, there's a basic principle that it takes seven "touches" before a person will internalize and/or act upon a call to action. While this actual number has been debated along with "what does 'touch' actually encompass", one thing is certain: research proves that messages are more effective when repeated.

Research has also shown that people are more likely to remember something they see and touch.

This is where Haptics, or the perception of objects by touch, especially in nonverbal communication, comes in to play.

In humans, touch represents a powerful form of non-verbal communication. Our sense of touch plays a fundamental role in daily life, from learning about objects to communicating with other people."

~ Dr. David Eagelman,
'A Comminucator's Guide to the Neuro Science of Touch'

When marketing combines multiple "touch points" with Haptics (using textured paper, gloss over print, embossing, etc.), not only is brand recognition improved at that moment, but an actual connection is made in the brain allowing for a deeper level of engagement which leads to enhance recall.
